Ever ask yourself why God chose you? Well, if you have, know that you are not alone.
Every real child of God seeks to find answers to this question. We wonder why the Creator of heaven and earth chose us despite our weaknesses. Like the Psalmist, we are left asking what is man that you are mindful of Him? The son of man that you care for Him (Psalm 8:4).
In this simple to read article, we will look at different reasons why God chose us. You will learn why God is always there for you in good and bad times. And why He never quits on you despite your weaknesses.
Why God Chose YOU?
1. Because God Wanted You
Have you ever taken care of someone you don’t like? Maybe someone’s name came up, or you are nodding your head as you read. It is not that you are a terrible person, it’s just that some people are a lot of work.
At times situations force us to be there for people we would rather avoid. Given an option, we would sever all ties and have nothing to do with them. But since they are our family, church members, or colleagues, we feel obligated to care for them.
As a matter of fact, the people we love and care for are in our lives because God placed them there. We love our family because we are related to them. We love our friends and colleagues because something draws us to them or we share certain things in common with them.
But that is not the case with our Heavenly Father. God chose you because He wanted you. No one forced or coerced Him into creating us (Genesis 1:26). He decided to do it even though He knew that we would fail and disobey Him.
If you feel unwanted, please know that God chose you because He wanted you. He created you for a purpose, and no one, no demon or person on this earth, can stop God from loving you. You are the only person that can stop Him from working in you and through you.
2. Because God Loves You
A lot is said about love, but if you want to understand the true definition of love, you need to go back to the source, and that is God.
The Bible says that God is love. It means that our Heavenly Father created us out of love. And God chose you so that He can pour His unconditional love on you.
Maybe someone lied to you that no one will love you like them, and you believed them. Today, know that God loves you, and He loves you unconditionally. Your Heavenly Father chose you before the foundation of the world to be the object of His love.
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
1 John 3:1(NIV)
3. To Accomplish God’s Purposes on Earth
Do you know why you are here? Have you discovered your purpose in life? Well, all of us have been created for a purpose.
God told Jeremiah, He had set him apart to be a prophet to the nations (Jeremiah 1:5), meaning that Jeremiah’s purpose on earth was to prophesy to the nations. In the same measure, we have been set apart to fulfill the purposes of God on earth in different capacities. Some of us have been called to evangelize, encourage, pastor, help, or give.
We have also been chosen by God to be parents, siblings, friends, colleagues, leaders, children, among so many things. We need to serve God in whatever capacity He has placed us. If you don’t know your purpose, don’t worry. God will reveal His purpose for you if you go to Him. He says in the word ask, and it shall be given to you. So if you ask God to reveal your purpose, He will do so.
4. God Wants You to be Holy and Set Apart
As we have already seen, God created us as objects of His love, and He wants to pour His love on us. When we accept God’s love and allow Him to be our Father, He removes us from the kingdom of darkness and translates us to the Kingdom of His Son Jesus.
Everyone that belongs to the kingdom of God is holy and set apart. You are no longer a child of darkness. You are no longer spiritually dead. The blood of Jesus has purified you. As a matter of fact, you are exactly like Jesus in your spirit.
But why has God set me apart and made me holy, you may ask. It is because the children of God should not be the same as those that belong in the kingdom of darkness. You are the salt and light of the world. It is through you that those who live in darkness learn about God’s love. Another point to note is that we are holy because we serve a holy God (Ephesians 4:1).
5. To Proclaim the Excellencies of God
Do you find it hard to share your faith with others? You are not alone. Talking about God is hard at times. There are times when it is easy, but there are also those times when it feels like a burden. Though talking about God openly brings glory to Him, there are those times when we feel shy and would instead not do it.
1 Peter 2:9 tells us that we were chosen to proclaim the excellence of God. But what does that mean? Claiming the superiority of God means sharing with the rest of the world about God. We need to tell the rest of the world who God is, the great things He has done in our lives, and how much He loves each one of us.
Through proclaiming God’s excellence, people get to know who God is and why they should worship Him. So as a kingdom child, you have been chosen to proclaim the goodness of God to people around you.
But how do we proclaim the goodness of God?
● By Sharing our Testimonies
We need to share our testimonies with the rest of the world because they uplift others and encourage them to have an intimate relationship with God. Your testimony doesn’t have to be out of the world. A simple testimony will change the hearts of men and encourage them to continue walking in the Lord.
● Using Our Gifts and Talents
God has given us gifts and talents through which we can proclaim His greatness to the rest of the world. If you don’t know your gift or talent, ask God to show you. Use your gifts to serve, and remember to always give God all the glory.
If your talent is singing, sing songs that bring glory to your Heavenly Father and point people back to Jesus. If it is writing, use it to share the Gospel. Use what God has given you to tell people about Jesus and proclaim the excellencies of God.
6. God Chose Us for His Pleasure and Will
Let’s be honest; there are things that God does in our lives that we find hard to comprehend with our human mind. One of those things is Him choosing us for His own pleasure.
It was God’s pleasure to create us and set us apart to accomplish His purposes. It is not that we did something so deserving to make God choose us. It is not about our looks, abilities, talents, knowledge, age, or status. It is about God and what pleases Him.
The truth is God can do all great by Himself. He doesn’t need us to complete Him. God is complete in Himself. But it still gives Him pleasure when we accept Him and allow Him to lead us. God finds pleasure in loving and blessing us, and that is why He chose you to be His beloved child. God wants to love and bless you, so stop trying to earn His love. Accept His blessings, love, and enjoy them.
7. God is Gracious and Merciful
Nothing about us can make us gain favor with God. It is purely by grace that we find the favor of God. We are sinners, but despite all that, God still chooses us, and it doesn’t matter how many times we mess up. He always welcomes us with open arms.
If you have been struggling with condemnation thoughts because you messed up, know that God still loves you. He will not leave you just because you messed up. He wants to enjoy intimacy with you, but you need to believe that and draw near Him first.
Next time the enemy tries to make you feel unworthy and not deserving of God’s love, remind yourself that it is not about you. It is about Jesus and the great sacrifice He made for you at the Cross. Turn to God when you mess up. Ask Him for mercy because His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
8. He is Faithful
Moses told the Israelites in Deuteronomy 7:7 that God did not choose them because they were numerous. God chose the Israelites because He loved them and was faithful to the covenant He had made to their forefathers.
The same is true for us today.
God will never reject anyone who turns away from sin and accepts His Son Jesus. He is faithful to His covenant. God did not spare His son because of you, and as such, He can not reject you.
Your Heavenly Father will never tell you to get righteous first before you turn to Him and enjoy intimacy with Him. If He did that, He would be saying that your actions are more significant than what Jesus did on the Cross. In case you believe that you need to do certain things before God accepts you, reject that lie and surrender to God.
See, it doesn’t matter what you have done. What matters is that you want to get right with God. And live according to His purposes on earth. God loves you so much, and He cares for you even when you mess up. Do not be afraid to turn to Him. He is faithful. God will forgive and cleanse you from all sin.
9. To Demonstrate God’s Character
It is hard for us to relate with people with questionable character, right? That’s why we take time to know people before getting close to them. Sadly we often find ourselves treating God the same way. We find it hard to trust God, so we keep doubting His promises. Our sinful nature causes us to doubt God even though we know that He loves us so much. There are times we find ourselves questioning God even after He has done so much for us.
See, it is difficult for us to understand God’s character with our human mind. That is why He chooses us and draws us near to Him so that He can show us who He is.
If all you know about God is what you have heard others say about Him, then you are missing out. God wants you to know Him personally. He wants you to understand His nature and character because you will start to transform from the inside and become like Him when you do that.
10. Because He is your Father
To be honest, most of us find it hard to understand God as a Father because we grew up in homes without fathers. Either they were not physically present, or they were emotionally unavailable. Whichever the case, know that God will never abandon you. He will always be there for you, even when you get off track. See, God chose to be your Father. He did not have to, but He chose to. So trust Him and always see Him as a loving Father who will go to great lengths to demonstrate His love for you.
Listen to wise thoughts of Rabbi Manis Friedman. Even he was asked why God chose the Jewish people, you are also included in that answer. Why? Because we belong to Christ, then we are Abraham’s seed in Him. And if we are Abraham’s seed, we are chosen too.
The truth is:
It will take time to understand why God chose you. It’s something about God that wants us. It’s not about us that making God wants us. Before there was anything to want, He already wanted.
So take time to understand every point and keep on meditating on each until you get a revelation from God.
Honestly, there will be times when you will struggle with doubt and fear. But always remember that you are the object of Daddy God’s love.
Your Heavenly Father chose you because He wanted you. No one forced Him to pick you, He did it out of love, and God will remain faithful to the end.
Hope this Word has given your more understanding of why God has chosen YOU! Please let me know what it means to you. Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
Shalom & Blessings,
Haly
