Your Words Have Power

Your Words Have Power - Flower Breaks Through Concrete

Words. We use them every day. YOU use them every day. We have become so familiar and accustomed to it. We hear them every day. YOU hear words every day. But more often than not, the real intention of God for using words has been overlooked by many and even misunderstood by many. Everywhere you look, words are all around you. On the internet, in your place of work, in your home, in your community, in your little group of friends, on the television, on the radio, in newspapers and your school… words everywhere! You can’t do without it! Come on, let’s take a look at God’s intention for creating and using words. Are you ready for this journey? Trust me, it will help you understand God, life, people and yourself more. Get ready for this journey as we drive into the very beginning of words, which is the beginning of you. Let’s go now!

My Story

We find many verses in the Word of God we have to watch what we speak over our lives or other people’s lives. God said to me, “Haly, your words are so powerful. They can bring destruction or life. I have sent you to speak life into others. Watch what you say.”

Once, I was in an underground. In a busy underground, I usually do not pay too much attention to what is going on around. Get out as soon as I can is the main goal, not watching people. But at that time, my attention was on five or six young lads. I knew what they were going to do. I thought, “Those are not going to pay but pass through gates when someone puts a ticket through.” That is exactly what happened. They waited till someone came to the gate and sneaked in without paying. Honestly, I spoke out loud not a blessing. Then I heard a voice, “Didn’t I say, I have sent you to speak life into others? Are those words of life?” I asked the Lord to forgive me and prophesied blessings into their future.

It is so easy just to spill all our emotions out when we are frustrated, feeling pain or being hurt. Now I am thinking twice before I speak. Will it bless their future or not? Have I failed? Yes, like in this story. But the Lord corrects with love and we with authority He has given us, can cancel the word of destruction and send word of life and hope.

I like a story from 2 Kings 7:1 when Elisha in the time of famine proclaimed boldly that next day about that time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria. He proclaimed life when there was death because of no food supplies left. It happened exactly what Elisha told leaders of Israel. Elisha knew, his mantle of authority could bring life or death. We have the mantle too, not from men but from Jesus Himself.

Words – More than a Vocal Means of Communication

Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.” – Genesis 1:3,4

Did you read that? Isn’t it awesome? “Then… God said.”

I’m sure you can see that God didn’t use words as a mere means of communication, but rather, He used words as a means of creation! Yeah. Again I say ” God used words as a means of creation .” In other words, God used words to create the heavens and the earth. You need to re-align yourself with the way your Majestic Creator-God used words, you need to begin and continue to imitate Him in this manner. The ancients understood the power and purpose of words more than this present generation. Ancient ones like Job, David, and Solomon. Listen to what they had to say concerning words:

Job’s testimony: ‘Then Job answered and said: ‘How long will you torment my soul, and break me in pieces with words?’ – Job 19:1,2

David’s testimony: ‘Let all the earth fear the Lord; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood fast.’ – Psalm 33:8,9

Solomon’s testimonies: ‘Do not be rash with your mouth, and let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; therefore let your words be few.’ – Ecclesiastes 5:2

‘Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.’ – Proverbs 18:21

When you really study what the ancients understood concerning words, you’ll agree with me that words are more than a means of communication!

Words – A Vehicle of Power, Light, and Life

‘Then God said;  ‘Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.’

Light Highway

God’s use and intention of words are creative. No one can indeed create anything out of nothing. You can’t create a substance or matter from emptiness. God doesn’t create anything from emptiness. He creates (and you also can) from His power, light, and life! But the vehicle He uses to transmit His creative power is the vehicle of words.

Words contain things, words contain the substance. The original design of words is to transmit power, light, and life; thereby ruling over creation.

What are the contents of your words? Are they criticisms, complaints, bitterness, anger, hatred, doubt and unbelief? Do you not know that in the original and true design of Father-God, words are weighed in the realm of the spirit, and can determine the direction of your life and destiny?

Hear this:

‘Come, you children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord. Who is the man who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit.” That’s a piece of candid and honest counsel from an ancient one, a man after God’s heart. (See Psalm 34:11-13)

What comes out of your mouth and of course your heart matters to God and your own life.

God brought forth light from His Own Being using the vehicle of words (See Genesis 1:3,4)

He instructs the prophet, Ezekiel, to speak words of prophecy to transmit life into a dead and hopeless situation (See Ezekiel 37:3-12)

The sage of the New Testament, having encountered God, tells us there is power in God’s word (See Hebrews 4:12

Words indeed are transmitters of power, light, and life.

Jesus, the Pattern and Example to Follow

‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were created through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.’ – John 1:1-4

Every time you speak or hear words, it ought to remind you that the original Word is a Person! God deliberately interweaved creation with His Son! Remember, He (Jesus, the Word) was in the beginning with God, and God the Father Himself employed and engaged His Son (Jesus, the Word) in order to create the earth! He even goes further to establish the fact that life and light are hidden in His Son (Jesus, the Word) and so you cannot have light and life if you do not use words rightly!

Jesus the Word Himself speaks to you and says that: ‘for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the  good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. (See Matthew 12:34, 35)

That’s pretty simple to understand, right? Good man – good words – good things! Evil man – evil words – evil things! I am sure you want your life to be good, right? So, begin and continue to put ‘the good treasure’ (God’s Word) into your heart and speak it always and watch as your life, health, finances, family, and nation catches and reflects the power, life, and light of the words you speak! Yes, there is power in your words.

However, remember that Jesus is holy and no filthy word proceeds from His mouth. The mouth and tongue that will use words to bring God’s power, light and life to a situation must be free of filthy talk! ‘Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it might impart grace to the hearers.’ – Ephesians 4:29

Releasing the Power in Your Words

1) A Sanctified Tongue – ‘So I said: ‘ woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips; and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips, your iniquity is taken away, and your sin purged.” – Isaiah 6:5-7

This is a requirement for the release of power through your words. May the Lord sanctify and purge your tongue! Amen!

2) A Heart of Faith – ‘And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, ‘I believed and therefore I spoke…’ – 2 Corinthians 4:13

The creative power of words can only be released by spoken words of faith. Don’t talk about death, sickness, difficulty or poverty. Talk about what Jesus has done for you on the cross, life, fruitfulness, health, the promises of God, turn them into songs and keep believing. If you go back to the first chapter of the book of Genesis, you’ll see that God first spoke, then He saw.

That, my friend, is faith!

3) Unshakeable Confidence – ‘Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.’ – Hebrews 10:35

The prophet Elisha knew his words will surely come to pass. He wasn’t bothered, worried or in doubt. And of course, you know it did! Unfortunately, the unbelieving man robbed himself of the miracle. A lord on whose hand the king leaned did not believe Elisha’s word. There was a doubt in his statement, therefore even he saw a provision, he did not eat it. (See 2 Kings 7:2,19,20)

Unbelief is a robber, never allow it! Keep believing and speaking with unshakeable confidence and be filled with expectation.

Amen.
