You shall Lack Nothing: Psalm 23

You shall lack nothing is a beautiful and encouraging promise for us. It stirs our hearts in the right direction and causes us to leap joyfully.

So we say Amen when we read it or clap our hands with excitement when servants of God affirm it to us. But if we are being honest, there are times when we can’t help but wonder if the promise is true:

  • Why am I struggling to pay this bill?
  • Why isn’t healing manifesting in my body?
  • Why don’t I have a job?
  • Why have I been asking God for this and that, but He hasn’t answered me?

And the list goes on.

In this article, we shall examine this verse. What it means, and why we still experience lack. And how we can start to experience this promise in its fullness this year and moving forward.

Let’s get started:

What does “You Shall Lack Nothing” Mean?

To lack nothing means:

1. Not Decrease

To decrease is to progressively grow less in intensity, number, and productivity. It is to decline in something.

We are promised in Psalm 23 that we shall not decrease in intensity that is in vigor or power. Instead, we become stronger and more vigorous in all that we do.

The higher God takes us in our faith, ministry, family, and life, the more powerful we should become.

Growing weary? This is a great reminder that the Lord is your Shepherd. Therefore, your strength is renewed like the eagles.

Yes, your last season has been intense, and you are weary, disappointed, and on the verge of giving up. But this year, God is telling you that He is your refuge and strength. Stop relying on your strength. Let Jesus lead you!

2. Not to Be Without

As the world prepares for the recession, we must prepare for abundance because God is taking us to Goshen (Exodus 8:22). The body of Christ is walking into a season of abundance.

This means that children of God operate under a different economy, so we should not allow our circumstances to detect how we live. The word of God is final.

God Himself is going to take care of our needs in this season. We shall not be without anything that He has promised.

Preparing for Goshen is important. If God has instructed you to build a business, move to a new city or town, apply for another job, or build an online business or ministry, you better listen. It may not make sense, but listening and moving at His speed is better.

Prophetic Word

A few days ago, God put into my heart to send this word to one lady, but I feel it’s relevant for many of you. So, here is the word:

"Goshen" is also your place, a place of divine provision, spiritual refuge, and protection. God's provision is drawing near. You also need to draw near, and the blessings of God will draw near to you.

You think it's hard or unavailable or unreachable or not for you. But it is easy, available, near you, and for you.

You actually did experience a drawing near moment but stopped it because of some unresolved issues. But this time is not going to be like last time.

So, do not be afraid to go to "Goshen", and start from scratch. Rejoice, and see how the Lord is going to bless you beyond measure.

And it's not going to be hard. While others sweat, whatever you do will be with ease."

Do not procrastinate over the promise God has given you. Run with that vision, and you shall lack nothing when things begin to shift.

3. Not to Fail

Here is the thing: if you obey the shepherd and follow His blueprint for your life, you will not fail.

We are not saying that you’ll not make mistakes. Yes, you will. But When Jesus leads you, you will make the right decisions despite the mistake.

God is asking many of us right now to take risks.

It is scary when God asks you to do something nobody in your family or circle of friends has ever done. But God knows what He is doing and will never lead us wrong. Trust Him with all your heart.

Follow the path He is taking you through, and you will not fail. Don’t remain in the boat just because it is comfortable. Step out like Peter, walk on top of the waves with Jesus, the good shepherd and when you stray, cry out to Him and ask Jesus to rescue you.

You’ll never know what walking on water is until you stop fearing failure and follow Jesus blindly Mathew 14:22-33

Someone may ask:

Why do we Experience Lack if Psalm 23:1 tells us we shall lack nothing?

1. God’s Timing is Different from ours

As much as God has already catered for everything we need in life, He doesn’t give us everything at birth. If He did that, then we would not seek after Him. We would live on our terms because we have everything we need.

God is a good and responsible Father. He wants us to be good stewards of His promises and blessings. That is why we have to wait for His timing. In the waiting, we mature in our relationship with Christ and learn to be good stewards of the resources God has freely given us through His son Jesus Christ.

2. Unbelief

The second reason we experience lack in our lives is because of unbelief.

You may believe that God is a Healer but still struggle to receive healing because you believe that you don’t deserve to be healed. We struggle with hidden sins, condemnation from past sins, or self-worth issues.

Know and believe that Jesus has already taken our shame and past mistakes on the cross. You don’t have to continue living in lack anymore. The blood of Jesus has made you worthy to receive all the blessings that pertain to life. So, it is not about what you can do for God but what Jesus has already done for you.

Repent, believe, and receive!

3. Lack of Knowledge

The Bible says my people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6).

Some people suffer because they have not heard the Gospel or misunderstood it. When you tell them about Jesus, they think it’s all about religion. They don’t understand that this relationship will cause them to receive great blessings. It is an open door to eternal life.

Other people believe that even after they’ve given their lives to Christ, they need to pay for their blessings. They don’t know that God has given these things to us freely.

It is only the truth that we know that can set us free. We need to know what God says in the Bible. We need to work on our relationship with God. Spending time with God through prayer and Bible study should not be an option.

4. Schemes of the enemy

Some people lack because the enemy has stolen from them. The enemy will do anything to keep us from experiencing the goodness of the Lord. He is a thief that steals the blessings of God from believers.

That is why we must be alert and aware of his cunning ways. Always remember the enemy is a defeated foe. He is under our feet, and we no longer have to live in fear of his control.

Let us always live from the point of victory, for we are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus.

How do we Live from Abundance, not lack?

The young lions lack food and suffer hunger, but they who seek (inquire of and require) the Lord [by right of their need and on the authority of His Word], none of them shall lack any beneficial thing. – Psalm 34:10 (AMPC)

‣ Start from the Spirit Realm

We are spirit beings, so everything starts in the spirit realm.

When Jesus died and took back what the enemy stole from us, all those things were deposited in the spirit realm Ephesians 1:3. We are healthy, protected, and provided for by God. But for us to access what God has for us, we need to partner with Him so that we can access those things.

‣ FAITH in God is the Key

Faith in God is the key that opens up doors to the blessings of God in our lives.

How does faith to live an abundant life come?

By hearing the word of God! The word of God should be our standard. Circumstances should not detect to us how to live.

It is also important to know that faith works by love. When we understand how much God loves us, it becomes easier to receive from Him.

Walking by faith is a process. We may find it easy to receive in one area but need help in another. Do not beat yourself up just because you are experiencing a lack in a particular area. Show yourself grace and take time to understand the love of God.

It breaks God’s heart when His children experience lack, yet He has already provided everything for us. Sometimes God will perform miracles, but there is a standard He has put in place for His kingdom children to live supernaturally here on earth.

We only need to believe and obey His Word.

I pray this word takes you to the next level!

May you see an increase and abundance in your life today and always!

Blessings,

Haly ❤️
